The PermaSafe story began in 2009, in response to that year’s H1N1 pandemic - a global crisis that created an urgent need for germicidal solutions in densely populated environments. Recognizing that few spaces are more confined and frequently occupied than automobile interiors, and drawing on a long history of designing and manufacturing vehicle service and maintenance products, our parent company set out to develop a solution specifically for motor vehicle passenger cabins.

While that may sound like a simple enough need to fulfill, it was anything but, because at the time, and unfortunately, it remains true to this day, most disinfectants are highly toxic. Further, typical disinfectants are only approved for use on what the EPA classifies as Hard, Non-Porous Surfaces, such as floors, countertops, and bathroom fixtures … which excludes nearly every surface and material found inside a vehicle’s passenger cabin.

So began our multi-year quest to develop innovative surface hygiene solutions that were not only powerfully antimicrobial, but also safe for use on the wide variety of materials found in automobile interiors, which include highly finished woods and metals, fabrics, carpets, glass, plastics, touchscreens, electronics, composites, and many more. Acceptable products also had to be simple to use, fast-acting, harmless to everyone and everything, non-staining, Food Surface Safe, and free of unwanted fumes and odors.

And unlike conventional disinfectants and sanitizers that offer minutes, or at best, hours of antimicrobial protection, our goal was to deliver MONTHS of post-application antimicrobial protection.

PermaSafe CLEAN and SHIELD are the result that undertaking, and they have exceeded our every expectation. For over a decade, we’ve sold these amazing products exclusively to automobile manufacturers and their dealers.

Having successfully treated and protected over one million vehicle interiors, and knowing that the same unique properties that make CLEAN and SHIELD ideal for vehicles also make them perfect for homes and businesses, we’ve expanded into the consumer market - bringing safe, effective disinfection, sanitization and long-lasting antimicrobial surface protection to everyone.
